Athletic Director/Physical Education Teacher

I would like to introduce myself, I am Alvin S. Castro, and I am the new Physical Education Teacher / Athletic Director for St. John Eudes School. I hold a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physical Education major in Sports & Recreation Management at De La Salle University Manila, Philippines. I am happily married with two beautiful daughters name Angelica and Angela. This is going to be my fourth year as a Physical Education teacher.  My foundation was established in the San Fernando Valley, particularly at Grant High School in Van Nuys. I was a student athlete, and a scholar during my high school and college days. This in turn led to a career of Professional Basketball in the Philippines, and currently a profession in coaching and teaching.  I have been involved in coaching basketball in all levels, and conducted basketball clinics / camps during and after my career in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). In addition, I have been with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks as a Recreation Assistant where I have been coordinating / coaching youth sports, and working in summer sports camp.

My philosophy is to promote the importance of physical activities and the functioning of the human body through Physical Education because it is an integral part of the total educational program of each student. Through sports and movement all students will participate in a sequential, differentiated program that will foster each student's personal health and fitness. Through the exposure of a wide variety of activities, and sports, students will gain the necessary knowledge to make educated decisions to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, while most people only care about winning. I strongly believe that success can be defined in other ways like making progress, giving effort, having fun, and  how much we learned or how much better we are at the end of the year.
